Prototypes for Future Ingenuity that Will Make Your Knees Weak

Technology is advancing at an ever-increasing pace, leading consumers into a feeding frenzy as they compete to have the latest gadgets. Here’s a look at some of the most recent prototypes that will make the tech lover in you go wild.

Laptop Innovations

Think laptops are a thing of the past thanks to the tablet PC market? Think again.

Kinect-Enabled Windows 8 Laptops

This future-generation laptop will make old news of the standard webcams we’ve become accustomed to, instead utilizing motion-controlled sensors. Windows has confirmed the presence of Kinect technology in two prototypes made by Taiwan-based Asus, which otherwise resemble the laptops we all know today.

Canova Dual Screen Laptops

If you like reading the daily news on your laptop, you’ll love this new dual-screen approach, which enables users to visualize an entire newspaper much the same way as they would reading the paper-based version. This gem can be configured in multiple ways to use one touch screen as a keyboard and the other as a visual, or set them up side-by-side for a wider viewing range.

Tablet Innovations

Entertainment tablets are largely viewed as the next big thing that will knock laptops off their pedestal as king of mobile technology.

The Google-Nexus Hybrid

This device is designed to convert from a tablet PC to laptop and back again. Google just filed this patent, titled, “moveable display portion of a computing device.”

Razer’s Project Fiona

Gamers will drool over Project Fiona, a gaming-enabled tablet device that takes portable gaming to the next level. No more choosing between a tiny display and packing up the entire console. The best part? Fiona is also equipped to play PC games.

Mobile Phone Innovations

When smartphones first came to the market, the business community readily adopted the convenient devices. But over the past few years, smartphones have become the norm across all mobile phone users.

NTT DoCoMo and Fujitsu’s Double-Sided Transparent Display

This prototype has yet to be dubbed with an official name, but it’s the first device to offer a double-sided, transparent OLED touchscreen display. Users can use one display alone or both simultaneously. Potential problems? The display screen is on the small side at 2.4 inches, and it won’t be the easiest screen to read in poor lighting conditions.

BlackBerry 10

BlackBerry enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that a new device is underway, the BlackBerry 10, which bids adieu to the BlackBerry physical keyboards that have kept users sticking around even as touchscreen phones became the norm. However, the BlackBerry 10 will still be competitive with current touchscreen models with a unique screen that adapts to users’ typing habits over time. The company is aiming for more application support from developers with this potential release.

Mobile WiFi hotspots, GPS-enabled devices that help us navigate our way no matter where we’re traveling and instant gratification when it comes to email messages and even Facebook notifications are no longer perks, but standard expectations among consumers.  No matter whether your tech obsession is tablets, laptops, or mobile phones, developers are working on significant innovations every day that could forever change the way you compute.
